Ivan Allen College
Founder’s Day Celebration
March 12, 2009
Each year, Ivan Allen College celebrates the legacy of our namesake, Ivan Allen Jr. (1910-2003). A former Atlanta mayor, gifted business man, civil leader, and alumnus of Georgia Tech, Mr. Allen embodied our aspirations for graduates of the College. Founder’s Day honor’s his memory through a day of festivities on or near the occasion his March 15 birth date.
The 2009 event will be held March 12. The centerpiece of Founder’s Day is the presentation of the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Progress and Service to a leader affiliated with Georgia. The recipient is recognized for outstanding contribution in a profession or field related to one of the disciplines of the College. Also presented during the Founder’s Day program are Ivan Allen Jr. Awards to faculty, student, and alumnus who exemplify the spirit of civic leadership personified by Mayor Allen.

Helene D. Gayle, President and CEO of CARE, has been selected by the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts as the recipient of the 2009 Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Progress and Service. Gayle will receive the award at the annual Ivan Allen College Founder’s Day Luncheon to be held on Thursday, March 12.
